Results are presented of an examination of the spontaneous deformation of welded joints in VT1-0 commercial titanium and VT6S alloy and the behaviour of their fine structure during long-term storage. The fine structure of welded joints in these alloys showed, in addition to the well-known relaxation processes, accumulation processes of stresses of the second kind which are also evidently responsible for the appearance, in these alloys, of the effect of 'ambiguity' of deformation. The relaxation rate of stresses of the second kind is considerably higher than that of stresses of the first kind and may exceed the latter by an order of magnitude.
