Vernon Instruments of Hitchin has recently designed and built a computerized post-process gauging system which makes 100 per cent inspection viable. The fully automatic system is used by an automobile manufacturer to check rear axle housings, and it can take 59 complex measurements in only 5 s. Total inspection time for each casting, including load and unload via a robot, is about 24 s.
