The techniques of corrosion prevention by means of cathodic and anodic protection are derived from fundamental electro-chemical principles. The relevant methods of practical application are discussed with particular reference to current sources and overall current requirements for optimum protection. The advantages and disadvantages of these two protective techniques are compared and contrasted to illustrate their complementary natures.
