The basic hardening phase is the T phase (Al//2Mg//3Zn//3) which is segregated from 160 to 170 degree C. On heating to 190 degree C and higher, the beta phase (Al//3Mg//2) begins to form along subgrain boundaries and over the entire grain at temperatures above 200 degree C. Coagulation of T phase and growth of beta phase lead to reduction in strength of an alloy containing 5. 5% Mg and 2. 5% Zn. The best properties correspond to the phase transformation after aging at 80 degree C for 8 h plus 190 degree C for 2 h.
