摘要
Part I of the paper describes the extent of the damage and the problem of designing a new bridge which would retain elements of the old structure. The loading calculations are described and details are given of the steel selection and treatment. Part II covers the tendering procedures and methods of erection (which involved a considerable amount of prefabrication and marine activity). Reference is also made to the first aid measures taken to keep Stephenson's fire-damaged structure safe and the methods used for demolishing the original wrought iron tubes.
