New species of the genus Chlamydomonas Ehr. Chlorophyta, Chlamydomonadaceae) from soils of the Ukranian carpathians

Chlamydomonas zerovii Rom., sp. nov. (Chlorophyta, Chlamydomonadaceae) is described. The species was collected from the brown mountain-forest soil under Pinus mugo Turra at the foot of the Hoverla Mountain (Chornogora Range, the Ukranian Carpathians, Transcarpathian Region, Ukraine). It differs from other known species of Chlamydomonas Ehr. In having cylindrical cells, well-developed two-humped papilla, parietal lobed chloroplast, small line-shaped stigma disappearing in the cells in unmotile state, nucleus localized within the posterior half of the cell. Data on reproduction, unmotile state, and aging are given as well.
