Paper machine reel optimization - analysis and a case study

Digital controls enable implementation of reel optimization using existing hardware. Digital variable-speed drives and programmable logic controllers provide data needed for reel optimization over some type of local area network. Digital drive functions such as winder stop to diameter, turnup diameter, tension nip torque control, rewound density, and parent reel density can also be used for reel optimization. Some systems use only paper length for optimization; however, volume calculation is better.
