摘要
Three profiles from Mount Orford area, Quebec and two from La Barriere, Cantal, France, developed on basic volcanic materials were compared from the points of view of physical, chemical and mineralogical properties. Profiles from the French Massif Central contained metahalloysite as the dominant phyllosilicate and showed an evolution typical of strongly desaturated conditions. Profiles from Orford area contained chloride as the dominant mineral in the fine fraction. When used for hay production, these soils can prouce good yields but there are several problems, including the deficiency in K** plus , Mg**2** plus , Cu**2** plus and Zn**2** plus and strong fixation of P//2O//5.
