A computer programme was developed as a mathematical model of the behaviour of the tail rope of a Koepe winder. The programme uses the experimental values of torque versus tensile load measured on the Universal Wire Rope Fatigue Testing Machine to determine values of C and T of the rope discreet loading conditions. The values of C and T are numerically analysed to determine the torque and twist in the rope under field conditions. A case study to show the effect of varying the swivel friction characteristics is included.
