The dependence of the absorption on daytime, temperature and illumination are discussed for 18 different types. From the measurements during one year laboratory conditions for the measurement of photochromic glasses are derived. It is shown, that the behavior of all glasses in the mean can be approximated in the laboratory with the smallest deviation from outdoor properties by using an illumination of 60000 lx and a temperature of 23 degree C for the determination of the darkened state. The suitability of photochromic glasses for night driving is discussed.
