The aim of the paper is to examine the economic position of the so-called light industry in the Polish economy in the context of development tendencies observed in the overall industry. Special attention is paid to the role of foreign capital in this area. The analysis of the dynamics of investment in industries like fabrics manufacturing, garment and fur coats manufacturing, leather processing and leather goods manufacturing and the shares of these industries in the overall capital investment in the Polish industry, combined with their decreasing or stagnating shares in sold production, confirm the weakening of their position in the Polish economy. There is also observed low interest of foreign investors in investment in the Polish textile and leather industries which is a consequence of their specific approach to benefiting from Poland's comparative advantage in this sector focused on the o-called outward processing.
