Application of computer simulation in developing Al alloy automotive parts using semi-solid die casting

Computer simulation was employed to optimize filling system to predict filling process and prevent the defects for Al alloy automotive parts in semi-solid die casting. By comparing formed appearance of parts in experiments with that in simulation, and observing the relationship between internal defects inspected by X-ray and flow field obtained in simulation, it is indicated that the calculated results are in good agreement with experimental ones. The computer simulation can accurately predict the possible casting defects during filling process to propose improved measures. The realization of numerical visualization for filling process of high speed during semi-solid die casting process can play an important role in optimizing technology plan and process.
