Design and optimization of a permanent magnet canned motor with an integral rotor

On the basis of a double salient PM motor, a permanent magnet (PM) canned motor with an integral rotor was designed for the pipe canned electric pump. In addition, the optimal design of the motor was performed in order to improve the efficiency of the motor. The designed PM motor has an integral PM rotor with an embrace of unity and no rotor core. The stator flux leakage was analyzed and the stator was designed. Furthermore, the eddy current loss of the can and the performance of the motor were analyzed using a three dimensional (3D) transient finite element (FE) method for the inaccuracy by the empirical formula method. In addition, the optimization analysis of the PM canned motor was performed using the quasi-Newton method. The optimization results were given in terms of the maximum of the efficiency and some constraint conditions.
