Solid-state phase equilibria in the Co-Pt-Nd ternary system at 1173 K

The solid-state phase equilibria in the Co-Pt-Nd ternary system at 1173 K (Nd ≤70%) were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD); scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS) techniques. Fourteen single-phase regions (including solid solution regions of the binary compounds) were determined. Twenty-four two-phase regions and 12 three-phase regions were identified to exist at this isothermal section at 1173 K. At 1173 K; we have observed that the highest solubility of Co in NdPt5 is 15 at.% Co; and the homogeneity range of NdPt2 phase is approximately 24.7-31.5 at.% Nd. Any new ternary compounds were not observed. © 2009 Elsevier B.V;
