High resolution three dimensional images of the sea bed can be obtained by an interferometric synthetic aperture sonar (InSAS) system. Good image registration is essential for successful interferometric height estimation. In this paper, a method of automatic image registration is described. The cross correlation is used to search the ground control points (GCPs) and to estimate the offset of each point. The Hierarchical matching algorithm is used to reduce search place. The Deluanay triangulation algorithm is used to form the geometric transform model. Trial results show that, even in the high noise condition, the method can obtain a stable result. © 2008 by Binary Information Press.
