Spectrophotometric determination of micro zinc with 1,10-phenanthroline and tetraiodofluorescein in the presence of β-cyclodextrin and Triton X-100

The color reaction of zinc-1,10-phenanthroline-tetraiodofluorescein system in the presence of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and Triton X-100 has been studied. A new spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of zinc in water. The result shows that the maximum absorption of the complex is at 570 nm with apparent molar absorptivity of 1.75 × 105 L·mol-1·cm-1 and Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0-20 μg/25 mL for zinc. The content of zinc in tap water were determined by the method with satisfactory results.
