The traditional drilling fluid has insufficient directivity, weak self-adaptation ability, difficult monitoring and cumbersome manual operations. While intelligent drilling fluid has better targeting, more outstanding drilling fluid performance, and can reduce the degree of manual intervention. The synthesis research of intelligent drilling fluid chemical systems and the functional enhancement of drilling fluid intelligent auxiliary systems are introduced. The development and application, and the current main research status of intelligent drilling fluids are reviewed. It is pointed out that although the current intelligent drilling fluid technology has been developed in chemical systems, intelligent transmission and monitoring devices, and as platforms, but precise control of drilling fluid performance parameters in the intelligent chemical system has not been achieved. The intelligent direction in the development of intelligent drilling fluids and the construction of intelligent drilling fluid platforms is too single to meet the current drilling site.
