The pulp and paper mill residues can be transformed to be used as raw materials, fuels and soil improvers. A UK firm, EnviroSystems, produces animal bedding, made from recycled sludge from Bridgewater Paper and Shotton, for the dairy and poultry industry. Kent based Aylesford Newsprint employs a mix of recycling and disposal solutions, where the largest proportion of the sludge is burnt to produce energy for the mill. Sludge makes up nearly 40% of the material input to the paper mills, which produce high quality, white grades from recovered paper.
