Structural topology optimization of a pylon's mount using ant colony algorithms

In this paper; an improved ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm and the finite element analysis (FEA) method are employed in the topology optimization for the forward mount of a pylon. Aiming at the basic ACO algorithm's shortcomings; which hold slow convergence rate at the ending and easily plunge into the local optimum; a new ACO algorithm is proposed by using the strategy of weighting factors and resetting pheromone when the algorithm falls into local optimization. Finally; the Patran command language is used to combine the improved ACO algorithm and MSC.Patran/Nastran to realize the information exchanging between the ACO algorithm and the finite element method. The stiffest structure with a certain amount of materials will be found according to the average stress of every element. The optimized solutions and the static test of the forward mount of a pylon prove that the study is not only theoretically significant but also practically valuable.
