To improve accuracy of the existing fault line detection (FLD) method and seek a universal detection approach for both neutral non-grounding system (NUS) and neutral grounding system via arc-suppression coil (NES), we discuss a new approach applying Dempster-Shafer (D-S) evidence theory in this paper. First, the mechanism of single-phase-to-ground (SPTG) fault is presented. For small current grounding system (SCGS), the mathematical analysis on zero-sequence current is implemented. Afterwards, the criterion on magnitude-comparison of zero-sequence current in frequency domain and the criterion on amplitude-comparison of the fifth harmonic in time domain are proposed. Further, a multi-criterion FLD approach integrated D-S evidence theory is advanced. The simulation results confirm the reliability of our proposed approach. © 2014 ISSN 1881-803X.
