摘要
In view of the defect of the exoteric finite element model for Hybrid III 50th percentile dummy head (its mesh being too simple and coarse in size), 5 models for Hybrid III 50th percentile dummy head are built with different grid size. It is found in model effectiveness verification that the simulation will be invalid due to too high a hourglass energy when the grid size is larger than 10mm, and it may be close to invalid when grid size is around 4mm. The hourglass energy can be well controlled and the whole head model has good pattern detail when the grid size is reduced to about 2mm. The head model with such a grid size is more suitable to be used in the crash simulation with head contact and can also be used for the modeling of entire crash dummy. It is also revealed in the study on contact features between head skin and head skull that the HIC value will be very close to test data when the contact between head skin and head skull is defined, eliminating 20% error generated in the case that contact is not defined.
