Small- and medium-size rectangular rooms have a strong influence on the low-frequency performance of loudspeakers. A simulation program based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is introduced to analyze the sound field produced by loudspeakers in rectangular rooms at low frequencies. A detailed-analysis in the time and frequency domains is presented by using the mean sound field deviation (MSFD); the cumulative spectral decay (CSD); and clarity. Typical scenarios of one subwoofer and two subwoofers are inspected by simulation in a virtual room;
