Two-phase solution systems occur in many engineering problems but they are difficult to simulate with conventional numerical methods because of the complexity caused by multiple components and phases. A lattice Boltzmann method was developed for two-phase dilute solutions based on the Shan-Chen multi-component model with an interparticle force between the solvent and the solute. Simulations show that the method is effective for two-phase nonvolatile solutions. The method can also simulate the surface tension and the surface adsorption of non-surface-active solutions. The numerical results agree well with the corresponding relevant theories.
