In this paper, a dual-band microstrip antenna is designed and analyzed using characteristic mode analysis (CMA). The eigen currents and modal significance (MS) values and modal patterns are produced and studied in the design of the proposed antenna. In the CMA method, the antenna design approach is based purely on the deterministic approach of eigen currents, and the initial analysis is done without giving any feed to the antenna. Based on the location of the maximum value of eigen currents, feed is given and the designed antenna operates in two bands, i.e., at 2.4 GHz and 3.5 GHz covering both the Bluetooth and WiMax applications. © 2020 Begell House Inc..
