A great day out

Icon News' office staff had great experience visiting the transformed Weston Library of the University of Oxford. At the heart of this modernization was the removal of an eleven-storey book stack in the centre of the building. Books were stored in underground stacks and the space freed up formed a huge entrance foyer, the Blackwell Hall, with an innovative glass-sided floating book stack above and space for a cafeé, shop and displays. The visitors showed more interest in the special brass book cradles, chosen for aesthetic, financial and environmental reasons as an alternative to more traditional acrylic cradles.
