Synthesis, characterization and photoluminescent performance of bis(salicylidene)-1,2-phenylenediamine zinc(II)

A novel kind of organic electroluminescent material, Bis(salicylidene)-1,2-phenylenediamine Zinc(II) [Zn(salph)], was synthesized by liquid-phase reaction . Its structure and performance were investigated by element analysis, FT-IR spectra, TG-DTA curve, UV-vis absorption spectra, cyclic voltammetry curve, fluorescent spectra, PL spectra and EL spectra. Experimental results show that glass temperature and decomposition temperature of Zn(salph) is 183°C and 449°C, respectively; HOMO level, LUMO level and optical gap of Zn(salph) is -5.83 eV, -3.19 eV, 2.64 eV, respectively; the maximum emission peak is at 530 nm and FWHM is 41.5 nm in PL spectra of Zn(salph) powder, which can emit yellow-green fluorescence; the maximum emission peak is at 575 nm and the FWHM is 45.2 nm in EL spectra of Zn(salph), which can emit yellow light.
