This paper presents a critical review of the shrinkage of concrete at early-age. Shrinkage that occurred during the first 24 hours was considered to be early-age shrinkage and is defined as the decrease in either length or volume of the material resulting from loss of moisture, reduction in temperature, or chemical changes. Different types of shrinkage and factors that influence the early-age shrinkage of concrete are reviewed in this paper. A review of how other investigators have estimated early-age shrinkage is also presented.
