SGL Group, The Carbon Company has adopted the Six Sigma method to improve and optimize its products and processes. The company has adopted this method, as it has been used at a number of steel to optimize processes and reduce energy consumption. Some of the first steps that need to be taken to apply the technique and reduce energy consumption involve regulating electrical energy used in each heat. The process can be made specific by dividing it with the charge or tap weight to get the kWh/ton number. The method also needs to examine other variables that affect energy consumption, using the latest and advanced tools. The company informs that steel shop need to adopt specific approach to steelmaking to develop an appropriate solution and realize the benefits of Six Sigma, which provides significant opportunities for reduction in energy consumption.
