An efficient numerical method for simultaneously updating mass matrix and stiffness matrix of a finite element analytical model based on incomplete modal data measured is presented. By means of theory and method of algebraic inverse eigenvalue problems, the optimal updated mass matrix and stiffness matrix which satisfy the required orthogonal relations and eigenvalue equation are found under the Frobenius norm sense. The procedure of this method is very simple and easy to realize, the solution of this problem has a compact expression. The numerical example shows that the updated model is coincident with the modal data measured.
