Photonics research: Picosecond fiber laser breaks 100-W barrier

UK-based researchers have shown that fiber technology can also scale picosecond source to average powers of more than 100W. They obtained 321 W from such a laser. Slope efficiency was 78% with respect to launched pump power. The 1060-nm peak was 20 dB above the background noise, and the group believe this figure could be increased by spectral filtering prior to the power amplifier.
