The Uk's Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM) will undertake the detailed options assessment for both technical robustness and public and stakeholder concerns and then producing recommendations to the government in July, 2006. The shortlisted options are long-term interim storage, deep geological disposal, phased deep geological disposal, and near surface disposal of decommissioning waste. The committee has monitored other countries' processes and its members also visited Finland and Sweden. The formulation of CoRWM's recommendations has complex ethical and social dimensions which have made it essential that the public and stakeholders can give their views.
