Flexible microcavity organic light-emitting diodes with wide-band organic distributed bragg reflector

We have fabricated flexible microcavity organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with an organic distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) and typical electroluminescent (EL) materials; 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum (Alq 3). Their performance was compared with that of conventional EL diodes. A sharply directed emission with a viewing-angle-dependent-emission intensity was observed when operated under dc drive voltages. Moreover; uniform emission from the entire active region of the microcavity EL diodes was observable; even when the device was largely bent. © 2006 The Japan Society of Applied Physics;
