摘要
Microbes encounter a myriad of stressors such as antibiotics and host response in the natural environment. These stressors activate different types of regulated adaptive responses which not only defend from stress but also integrate changes in the bacterial cells that will change their susceptibility against that particular stress. Exposure to stress conditions effects the sensitivity to stressors by utilizing their stress response mechanism to either speed up the recruitment of resistance determinants or advance physiological changes that involve antimicrobial action. Thus, the better understanding of stress response mechanisms against antibiotics can lead to the development of specific antibioticswith high efficacy and efficiency. This will further help to reduce the antibiotics resistance development. This chapter will try to cover the response mechanisms of bacteria against the stress induced by antibiotics. © 2023 American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
