The formation and change of burr in turning were studied by experimental researches and theoretic analyses. The forming mechanics model of feed-direction burr was put forward, the critical conditions of type I and type II of the feed-direction burr were given. And the new point that shear strain and bending of the chip are as main reasons is developed. The theoretic and experimental basis to restrain or decrease the feed-direction burrs in turning are made in this study.
