Flat scrap paper markets continue in July

US scrap paper markets slump continued in July, 2001. A weak economy and normal summer lags is expected to further cut prices and drastically curtail supply. Demand for sorted office paper (SOP) remained stable and was finding its way into the ground and out of the recycling loop due to low profitability in processing. Old newspaper was the most vulnerable grade among other scrap paper grades.
