Red proof prints were prepared and their deinkability evaluated by determining the ink removal rate in selective flotation. Furthermore, optical properties of the original and deinked proof prints were compared. The inks used in gravure printing differed in colorant systems and binder contents. One of the proof prints was selected to study the effectiveness of reductive and oxidative bleaching agents in color stripping. All the possibilities of using those processes to reduce red discoloration of deinked pulp are discussed.
