Demonstration of nondeterministic quantum logic operations using linear optical elements

Nondeterministic quantum logic operations using linear optical elements were demonstrated. The experimental demonstration of two logic devices, a destructive controlled-NOT (CNOT) gate and a quantum parity check was also reported. It was found that the two devices could be combined with a pair of entangled photons to implement a conventional (nondestructive) CNOT. Superspositions of input states was used to test the destructive CNOT operation.
