摘要
Closed field unbalanced magnetron sputter (CFUBMSIP) was used for the deposition of titanium nitride (TiN) biocompatible coatings on Co-Cr-based coronary stents. Scanning electron microscopy systems have been used to improve the overall quality of the coatings. The main defects of the early coating products have been classified according to their microscopic features and distribution. The main defects are controlled by the mechanical stress fields (crimping and expansion) and by the very complex shape of the stent. The SEM study enabled to trace the improvement in the quality of the coating.
