Protection of occupant lower extremities during vehicle frontal impact

摘要
This paper conducts the research of lower extremities protection of occupant during a vehicle frontal impact. The injury mechanism of foot-ankle, which is the most frequently injured part of lower extremity, is illustrated. The mathematical model of a dummy lower extremity has been validated by test data. According to the injury mechanism, a new kind of brake pedal has been put forward, and a mechanical analysis has been made using the validated math model. The analysis shows the effectiveness of the countermeasure.
