Waterborne wood coatings: Better performance through nanoparticles

We present a study on the performance additive Oxylink in 1K acrylic waterborne emulsion coatings that is based on aqueous oxide nanoparticle dispersions. The additive is highly compatible and disperses easily into the coatings without application of high shear. It significantly improves the performance of waterborne 1K acrylic coatings. Particularly, the solvent-rub resistance and blocking resistance can be considerably increased and drying time (touch dry) can be significantly decreased. The in-can stability of the 1K systems remains unaffected. Due to the negligible light scattering of well dispersed nanoscaled particles, the technology is widely applicable in clear, transparent and high gloss coatings.
