摘要
Passive aeration systems are often more economical than active aeration systems and can deliver similar performance, but mathematical descriptions of the process are inadequate for use in design or optimization. Therefore, a practical analytical model of air flow through passively aerated compost in a cylindrical bioreactor was developed. The model relates the physical characteristics and temperature of the compost with the predicted passive, con- vective air flow. The effect of compaction on the permeability of the compost was considered in the application of the model. The model was evaluated usingtemperature time series data from a passively aerated compostingexperiment as inputs, and the calculated air flow rates were not significantly different from the measured values (p =0.97).
