1. Technical Brief: One of the major causes of leaks of storage tanks is thickness reduction of bottom plates due to unexpected corrosion of down surfaces of plates. And it is extremely difficult to detect such defects or analyze corrosive trend of the whole bottom plates by ordinary spot inspection methods using ultrasonic inspection equipment. The high-speed bottom plate inspection system consisting of ultrasonic measuring unit having a 300 mm of inspection width and date processing unit enables to identify such corroded condition accurately by continuous measurement of whole bottom plates of tanks. This system will contribute to dedicated predictive maintenance to ensure safety operations of tanks. 2. Features: The system exhibits following advantages: 1) Measuring width of 300 mm achieves high-speed inspection (0.5 m/sec, 6.6 sec/m2). 2) Inspection can be made above coating films (Standard max. Film thickness: 2 mm). 3) Accuracy of measurement: ±0.1 mm, Max. Measurable thickness: 35 mm. 4) Thickness distribution of the whole tank bottom is figured by computerized date treatment. 5) Defective (corroded) Portions on the bottom can be identified from the date analysis.
