摘要
In this paper, the reflection properties and sensitivity of a D-shape optical fiber sensor containing left-handed material (LHM) are investigated theoretically and numerically. The properties of the LHM are given in detail and its main parameters are defined. The main important contribution of this article is the characterization of LHM that is different from its counterpart known in the literature. After the construction of the problem, the required equations for the electromagnetic plane wave propagation are derived and the reflected power and sensitivity of the structure are given in a closed form. Numerical results are presented to show the effects of wavelength, incidence angle, LHM thickness and refractive index of the external medium on the reflected power and the sensitivity with the emphasis on the parameters of the LHM layer.
