Restraint effect by moment frames on strength deteriorating behavior of H-shaped steel beams with local buckling

From recent research, it has been clarified that strength deteriorating behavior of H-shaped steel beam is mitigated by other members which restrain the axial deformation of the beam. In this paper, firstly, in order to verify magnitude of axial restriction by moment frames, static analysis of plane frames which are designed according to Japanese seismic code is conducted. Secondly, deteriorating behaviors of H-shaped steel beams with various axial restrictions are confirmed by means of proposed numerical model which is consisted of multi-spring elements. Finally, restraint effect by moment frames on deteriorating behavior of steel beams is discussed. © 2018 Architectural Institute of Japan. All rights reserved.
