摘要
A new species of fossil caryopsis like fruit, Graminocarpon stellatus sp. nov. embeded in the chert piece, was recovered from the Deccan Intertrappean beds of Mahgaon Kalan (79°.11' E: 22°.1' N) in Chhindwara District, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is oval in shape (1.6×1 mm in size); ridged, translucent in appearance. Exocarp is covered with stellate scales; Mesocarp thick paranchymatous and bears thin endocarp. The embryo is enclosed in papery membrane. Presence of abundant endosperm with marginal embryo indicates it's being a member of monocotyledons group of plants and shows affinities with the family Poaceae.
