Nonlinear response of submerged floating tunnel to wave forces

Dynamic response of submerged floating tunnel due to regular wave forces is investigated. The equivalent stiffness coefficients are derived with softness factor method, and the dynamic model of submerged floating tunnel is presented considering the coupling among various degrees-of-freedom. The nonlinear motion equation is solved in the time domain by step-by-step integration scheme. The wave forces on the tunnel tube are calculated following Airy linear wave theory and Morison equation. The simulated results show that surge response is much more remarkable than responses in the other degrees-of-freedom under wave condition. As the wave frequency or the tether pretension decreases, response amplitudes increase. The heave response may be highly underestimated if the coupling effect among various degrees-of-freedom is ignored in the submerged floating tunnel response analysis.
