摘要
The restoration schemes for optical and Synchronous Optical Network/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SONET/SDH)-based Internet Protocols (IP) networks are discussed. The protection and restoration schemes, are important for high speed optical networks. A need for fast and dumb restoration at the physical/link layer, scoped at restoring a single span, that will operate within stringent time constraints and be transparent to the network layer is also discussed. A detailed insight into the new survivability architecture, including: improving failure detection techniques at the network layer, defining optimal operating points for the physical/link layer restoration time limit and identifying optimal selective restoration strategies, is provided.
