No new high-speed rolling stock was purchased for the operation of the new Mediterranean high-speed railroad. Instead, existing high-speed trains were adapted to the speed of 300 km/h. Adjustments were made to the drive system, power electronics and braking equipment under two large-scale refurbishing programs. New procurement contracts were signed for Duplex (double-decker) trains with their manufacturer, Alstom. By 2007, the Duplex train fleet of the Mediterranean high-speed railroad will consist of 124 units.
