Effect of frequency on microstructure of electromagnetic casting 7075 aluminum alloy

摘要
The relationship between electromagnetic frequency and microstructure of continuous casting aluminum alloys was observed. 7075 aluminum alloy ingots with 200 mm in diameter were produced uner the frequency range of 10-100 Hz, and the microstructures of as-cast ingot was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The results show that electromagnetic frequency greatly influences segregation alloying elements and microstruc- tures of as-cast ingot, and product quality can be improved by application of a proper frequency (30 Hz). Electromagnetic frequency plays a significant role in solute redistribution; and lower frequency is more efficient for promoting solution of alloying elements and refining microstructure (15 Hz).
