Construction of a new water treatment plant in Detroit

A new water treatment plant is currently under construction in the city of Detroit, known as the center of the America's automobile industry, near the site where water has been treated for more than 120 years now. Local authorities have decided to implement this huge and expensive undertaking, currently the biggest water project in America, after having realized that the maintenance costs of the existing plant built in 1924 are too high. The new plant is built following direct consultations and negotiations with a design and construction consortium. In this way significant savings were made and the expected construction time was greatly reduced. The consortium in charge of the construction work will maintain the new plant over the first seven years of its operation. It is believed that this arrangement will result in higher quality of construction work and in installation of a better equipment. Apart from portions to be used in the new plant or preserved as objects of historic interest the old plant will be demolished and a new city park will be built in its place.
